Raven, Fabric Art Collage

Skylar started by a drawing which required time as I expanded on its shape, dimension and identified shading areas along with those needing a hint of light. The various applications of layers of fabric in different shapes/sizes/textures/tints brings it to life, it is natural that there is movement from the original concept as I allow the fabric to influence my positioning during the defining process.  Once the transformation is complete, the next step is deciding on the background.

For this art piece, I designed the background to provide an illusion of a star filled night where a much needed rest by Skylar on a post was needed to ensure that his treasure was safely within his grasp. 

The final step in completing the art piece is utilize a thread painting technique, layering the stitching and filling in shapes and motifs to  further embellish and apply shading where needed.  Intense thread painting was needed to create the shrubbery below.

This art piece is stretched over a 12x12 inch canvas within a floating oak wood frame.

My very first participation at any event and this art piece won 1st Prize within the Wall Hanging category. Very grateful for this recognition.
